Introducing: Naviance

Naviance is a program designed to facilitate the college search for high school students and families. While integrating a variety of college search components (anticipated major, geographic location, size of school, financial aid eligibility etc.) Naviance is a tremendous tool that will assist families in directing their own education, establish long and short-term goals and plan for post-secondary success.

This one year service is designed to guide families in organizing and executing important procedures that are necessary for confident and successful navigation of the college recruiting process, including:

  • Guidance in the selection of schools and athletic programs that “match” with the prospect.
  • Initial Academic and Athletic Evaluation
  • Development of complete contact sheet for coaches (e-mail, phone, websites etc.).
  • Formulate a personal “action plan.”
  • Development of personal and detailed organizational chart
  • Assist in the development of both long and short term goals and “target calendars” for the purpose of efficient organization. (10/15/30 day targets).
  • One on one advisement on effective communication with coaches (mock phone conversations, practice interviews and suggested questions, face to face strategies etc.).
  • Development of the personal profile (contact information, academic and athletic credentials, mission statement and coach’s testimonial.
  • Development of initial letter to coaches and:
  • Assistance in reviewing and developing correspondences to and from coaches
  • Guidance and suggestions to build a strong recruiting video and website.
  • Suggestions in preparing for off campus and on campus contacts (timing, phone calls, email, home visits, official and unofficial visit etc.).
  • Assistance in seeking athletic scholarship and negotiating financial aid.
  • Guidance in navigating D-3, Ivy League and select, non scholarship admissions
  • The family will have unlimited access to Tom Kovic throughout the term of the service.

My role is to “run the offense” and assist prospects and families in executing their personal recruiting plan. Communication between me and the family is “regular” and complimented by a “team” approach, where coaches, guidance counselors, family members and mentors will play individual roles to assist the prospect throughout the recruiting process.

This one year service is designed to guide families during the beginning stages of the recruiting process and provide them with a solid information base as it pertains to:

  • NCAA Rules
  • Eligibility Center registration
  • Effectively timing Contacts and Communication with coaches
  • Scheduling and preparing for Campus visits
  • Tournaments and Showcases:
  • Profiles, DVD’s and websites: How to get on the radar screen of college coaches
  • Initial Academic and Athletic Evaluation
  • Collaborate with families in developing a detailed action plan
  • Develop first draft athletic personal profile
  • Assist in forming personal portfolio (Profile, transcripts, test scores, introductory letter etc.
  • Develop individualized organization chart
  • Targets and timelines are developed to assist families navigate the process
  • Regular online and phone meetings
  • Athletic scholarships and financial aid guidance for the student-athlete and family
  • The family will have unlimited access to Tom Kovic throughout the term of the service.

These exercises will not only heighten awareness but will boost the candidate’s confidence. Although we use the same tools for everyone, we approach each client in a personal and flexible manner in order to meet the specific needs of each family. During this phase of the college search for athletes we not only learn the rules, but we begin to proactively and effectively get on the radar screen of the college coaches.

Families have the option to purchase individual advisement blocks to be used in assisting them in building a foundational base for college recruiting. Tom Kovic, director of Victory Collegiate Consulting, will personally advise families, and during times that are convenient for them. These presentations are designed to introduce prospects, parents, coaches and high school administrators to the college recruiting process. Topic areas include: The NCAA Eligibility Center, athletics scholarships and financial aid, contacts and evaluations, campus visits, effective communication with college coaches, profile and DVD development and organizing and managing your plan for success to name a few. Presentations will be conducted at high schools and private athletic clubs and follow an “assembly” approach.
